From Start to Finish

As a little girl I remember waking up to find my Granny having her quiet time in her living room.  She would be sitting in her favorite chair, reading, praying or writing. Even today her small table still has many of the same things I remember as a child: pens, various devotions, Daily Word and her mug.  My mother's area is a small table in her kitchen with many of the same things. I waited and wanted to grow up to have a "quiet time" area too, but my chair, my devotions, pens and highlighters are not purposely arranged for such a place.  Instead my quiet time is a nook spread throughout my day, in moments that come in long spans or small spans of time - my inhale moments.

For years, I thought that there was something wrong with me.  Every Christian woman is supposed to have a quiet time spot right?  That's what I thought.  I've since learned that "quiet" moments are not just reserved for a favorite chair or kitchen table.  They come when I'm quiet and make myself available to listen; like when I'm folding clothes, driving alone, or running.

While running, those quiet moments give me the opportunity to inhale God's word, His voice, His creation, His power, and songs of praise. These moments take me away from the demands of home.  I'm not looking at the chair that's not pushed under the table or listening for "Mommm."  It's just us - HIM and I.

As I start my day our conversation begins. A song from His Word that I read the night before sets the pace of my day. When I lace up my shoes, He's there reminding me of His love and grace.  While I'm stretching I feel Him building me up, encouraging me because of something I wrote in my journal.  With each exhale and inhale, each moment that passes on my stopwatch, each step I hear on the pavement.  From start to finish  HE's speaking. I'm listening, learning, thirsting for more.
